Festunit je videl svet oktobra 2007, ko sta se dobila režiserja gledaliških študenstkih skupin iz Oddelka za Romanske jezike in književnosti na Filozofski Fakulteti, Julie David in Primož Grešak.
Oba sta prišla do ugotovitve, da je umetniško življenje na Filozofski Fakulteti v Ljubljani zelo bogato, saj premore kar štiri gledališke skupine.
Želela sta, da se različna tujejezična ljubiteljska gledališča med seboj povežejo v okviru nekega rednega skupnega dogodka in festival se je kot združevalna oblika izkazal za najboljše.
Glavni cilji FESTUNIT-a so sledeči:
– FESTUNIT je prostor za srečanja, izmenjave in medkulturni dialog med študenti iz različnih držav, ki jih povezuje ljubezen do gledališča,
– FESTUNIT skupinam ponuja prostor za postavitev predstave, vendar udeležence nič ne zavezuje, da predstavijo končno ali celo delo; organizatorje torej zanimajo predvsem okoliščine in delo, ki pripeljejo predstavo do konca,
– Umetniške vodje skupin glede na svoje »področje« organizirajo dopoldanske gledališke delavnice, ki med seboj pomešajo sodelujoče študente iz različnih držav in gledaliških skupin,
– FESTUNIT ne pripada nobeni določeni politični ali gledališki ideologiji, dobrodošli so vsi gledališki predlogi; FESTUNIT temelji na prijaznem druženju, medsebojnem učenju in strpnosti.
– Organizatorji želijo, da bi FESTUNIT postal redni dogodek v koledarju prireditev v Ljubljani.

FESTUNIT has seen the world on october of 2007 when the directors of the theater companies of students of french and spanish language from the department of romanistic language and literature, Julie David and Primož Grešak, have met.
They came to the conclusion that the artistic life in the Faculty of Filosofy in Ljubljana is very rich since it has 4 theater companies.
They wished that the different amateur theater groups got together around a regular event and a festival has been choosen as the most appropriate form.
The main goals of the FESTUNIT are:
– FESTUNIT is a place for meetings, exchanges and intercultural dialogue between students, of different countries, bound by the love of theater.
– FESTUNIT offers the companies a place to represent their plays but it does not impose wether to come with a finished play or with just a part of it; what interests the organisors is the work that brings the play to its end.
– The directors of the companies lead a workshop according to there ”speciality” which mixes the students of different companies and countries.
– FESTUNIT does not belong to any political or theatrical idealogy. All theatrical suggestions are welcome; FESTUNIT is based on a friendly meeting, mutual learning and tolerance.
– The organisors wish that FESTUNIT becomes a regular gathering in the calendar of Ljubljana’s events.
We are now already preparing the 3rd edition of the festival: FESTUNIT 2010
